Hey all! So I have been in such the cleaning mood. Ever since I finished the semester I have been finding bits and pieces of our house to clean. Today I wanted to clean my sofas because we did buy them used, and although we have had them dry cleaned, I don't know how old they are and don't want them smelling poorly in a just a few years. I also want to preserve the life of our mattress and this recipe kills the dust mites that build up over time in all your fabric furniture.
Without further ado I present to you:
Supplies needed:
Measuring Cup
Baking Soda
Laundry Detergent**
Shake Container (optional)
Vacuum
Now depending on how much you are going to make, you will need to change the variables a bit. The recipe today is just enough to clean one loveseat.
Alright! Lets get started!
First you are going to measure out 1/4 cup of baking soda into your measuring glass.
The baking soda is what really cleans your fabrics. |
Next measure 1/8 cup of laundry detergent into the same measuring glass as the baking soda.
The pictures didn't turn out great, there isn't really a half a cup there. However depending on how fragranced (is that even a word??) you want your mixture you can put as much detergent you want. |
Next mix it up and pour it into a container that you can shake over the surface.
I PROMISE THIS ISN'T GARLIC SALT!!! I didn't want to run out to the store (lazy bones) so I just cleaned this out & use it from now on. |
Next is the fun part! Sprinkle away!
Let it sit for at least one hour.
Then, use the attachment on your vacuum to pick it all up
And VoilĂ ! You have a sofa that looks and smells clean!
**I didn't like the laundry detergent I bought. It smells like a clean grandma (love you Grandma!) which isn't bad, but I would prefer something a little different next time. I buy everything at Target, and they only had one that size. But I know that you can find a bigger selection at Walmart.
This is very interesting topic. All your needs in cleaning is in your kitchen and laundry. Just be careful and follow all necessary information and not to damage your mattress or else it will result to more expensive replacement of your mattress.
